Some mornings I wake up and I just want to dance. Having said that it is hard for me to find people that wake up with that same feeling. i hadn’t seen my friend Ed for a couple of weeks. that happens when you are enrolled in artschool you go through chunks of time where social interaction is just way too much to handle. luckily i caught up with her on her first night of spring break after having her last midterm crit at MECA. After popping into a couple of galleries we got liquored up @ local 188 and headed down to the oldport. Upon walking up to pearl we witnessed what could only be described as a “bro” fight. its as if the great lord was telling us that would be our destination for the night. disapointed in the music selection we decided to check out Oasis (pronounced, ho-asis). Ed got to bouncin around immediately, her legs kicking around in modern day funky chicken. i like to think i am more of a smooth cat on the dance floor mixed with a lot of fist pumping (thank you, jersey shore). Usually my desire to dance lasts but for only ten minutes. but the spring break freedom was radiating from Ed and i couldn’t help but feel inspired. we then returned to pearl where we met up with lee (see: sex magnet link) and the ladies of meca’s past. the whole experience was “filthy, creepy and weird”. standing by the bar looking down at the dance floor are men of all different ages and sizes and social demographics.its hard to block them out and not feel like a piece of meat while you try and belt out the words to Ke$ha’s tik tok. feeling exhausted from this sleazey night i went to get my winter garb from a corner and thats where i spotted it. an angela adams pillow sitting on a pleather couch. could it be? is pearl really the melting pot of my two loves. sleazey bars and simple finnish inspired design. imagine the jersey shore house decorated in marimekko. its like a dream. i walked home feeling satisfied about my evening.
pleasant surprise.
